Restylane is often used to fill wrinkles, lines and folds around the nose and mouth area (nasolabial folds), add volume to cheeks, chin and jawline, and plump lips. It can also be used to restore lost volume in the temples and undereye hollows.
While rare, there are potential risks and side effects associated with Restylane treatments. These may include redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. Other potential side effects include itching, discoloration of the skin, lumpiness under the skin, infection and other adverse reactions to the product. Your provider will discuss all potential risks and side effects with you before treatment.
The effects of Restylane dermal filler vary from person to person, but typically last for up to 18 months. Results may last longer in areas with less movement, such as the temples and chin area. With follow-up treatments, you can maintain lasting results for many years.
Restylane and Botox are two very different cosmetic treatments. Botox is an injectable neurotoxin used to temporarily reduce the activity of wrinkles caused by muscle movement in the face. It can be used to treat wrinkles around the eyes, forehead and between the brows. Restylane is a dermal filler that adds volume and hydration to areas such as lips, cheeks or nasolabial folds (lines between your nose and mouth). Both treatments are commonly used to achieve a more youthful appearance, but they do different things.
Generally, there is no downtime after receiving Restylane injections. You may experience some mild swelling, redness or bruising at the injection site, but these side effects should subside within a few days. Your provider will provide you with aftercare instructions to help reduce any potential risks and ensure optimal results.
